I was intrigued by the Newton D. Baker family photos as I was looking at the old Christmas pics in the LOC's Photo collection, so I was looking at all of the other photos of the Baker kids riding bikes, horseback riding, gardening, and noticed they are all such stiff shots...
Or posed listening to the radio while pretending to ride a bike...
You have to see them for yourself - and you'll see the self-conscious expressions on their faces in most every shot... except this one of Betty eating tomatoes...
and then there's this:
A little research confirms Newton D. Baker only had 3 kids, Jack, Peggy, and Betty.... So who's Reggie Baker?
I don't see one Christmas related item in this photo titled CHRISTMAS STORY I found at one of LOC sites, but it sure is the sweetest thing just the same.
Perhaps they're saying their prayers on Christmas Eve?

I saw a commercial on TV last night for NO FIZZ Alka-Seltzer.
I looked for it on their web site so I could point it out and make fun of it, but no mention of it anywhere, so enjoy Speedy extolling the virtues of fizzy bubbles instead.
In honor of the brutal cold snap that has an icy grip on the greater Bay Area, I dedicate this song to my neighbor, Lurkertype.

1. I tried to post a movie a long time ago, The Bat (epic fail).
2. I saw an advert for a book in the 100 years ago today New York Times called When A Man Marries by Mary Roberts Rinehart.
3. I thought Hmm, that looks like interesting... I checked gutenberg.org, and there it was/is.
4. Also in her list of books was a title I recognized, The Bat.
5. I thought, could that be the same story-line of that movie, The Bat, I tried to post so long ago? It was! I had no idea The Bat was based on a book.
Aside: Agnes Moorehead is one of my favorite actresses and she's way under-appreciated. She was such a good actress I feel badly that she's only remembered for her campy role as Endora. She was in an episode of the Twilight Zone called THE INVADERS that CREEPED ME OUT when I was a kid. CREEPED ME OUT, but I remember even at such a young age thinking she's a marvelous actress to pull that role off.
