Mouse-Free Firefox
Like Mr Jinks from the Pixie and Dixie cartoons, I hate mices to pieces. The innocent looking mouse has given me wrist pains and so I've had to find a few ways of working without it.
In Firefox this has been made a little bit easier by a couple of very nice Add-Ons.
Search Keys: This extension allows you to navigate Google search results (and other sites) using the keyboard. It numbers search results 1-0 so you can use the corresponding number key to go to that result. It also allows you to use , and . to page through results. There you have it - Mouse-free Googling!
For those of you who use Greasemonkey there are a couple of scripts that do the same thing.
Keyconfig: This extension allows you to change the default key combinations in Firefox. With this I've mapped actions to single keys. I press N for a new tab, # to go home, [ and ] to page through my tabs and X to close a tab. Since it doesn't apply these keys when you're in a text box it's perfectly safe to do this. I really couldn't get by without this extension now.
I hope this all helps someone. If you have tools in Firefox that you use to avoid RSI then I'd love to hear about them.
